Bronnegerveen holiday:B&B "de Vlaamse Gaai" is a renovated farm, built in 1920 and situated in a very rural neighbourhood. The "Vlaamse Gaai" is managed by 2 Belgians, who came to this region in 1985.
Besides 2 guestrooms, the guesthouse disposes of a large garden (± 5000 square meters) with terrace, a build-in balcony and a separated room where guests can enjoy an extensive breakfast in the morning and where they can watch TV or make use of the large information library.
The "Vlaamse Gaai" is situated in the Hunze river-basin (shaped during the 3rd ice age - the Wolstonian glacial period ± 150 thousand years ago)
On one side you can find the "Hondsrug" (a sand ridge, formed in the same period by the pushing of the glaciers. That is why enormous boulders were transported from Scandinavia to here). On the other side you can find the old peat area (formed about 10 thousand years ago during the transition of the Pleistocene to the Holocene and dug away in the 19th and 20th century).
Therefore the region is also well-known for its megalithic tombs (built with these large boulders in the Neolithic, ± 5000 years ago, by people of the funnel beaker culture).
As a matter of course the region has a lot to offer and is excellent for walking and cycling! In close proximity of the "Vlaamse Gaai" you'll find accommodations for swimming, fishing, playing golf, canoeing and horseback riding.
If you want to visit a town nearby, there are lots of possibilities.
Assen, the capital of Drenthe where the world-famous TT-races take place, is about 25 kms away.
If you want to visit Emmen, where you can find the nicest zoo of Europe, you only have to drive 25 kms.
